Frequently Asked Questions about STOTT® Pilates

Is STOTT Pilates similar to Yoga?

Both forms of exercise are similar because they emphasize mind-body techniques of movement. They also focus on deep breathing and smooth, long movements that further strengthen your mind-body connection. The difference is that Yoga moves from one static posture to the next whereas Pilates goes through a series of movements that are dynamic, systematic and anatomically-based while incorporating resistance equipment. The goal of STOTT PILATES is to strengthen posture muscles and achieve optimal functional fitness.

How long do I have to do Pilates Reformer Training before I see results?

An average person who is doing classes about 2-3 times per week will start to see results between their 10-12 class. These results will vary depending on the individual and other factors including how many classes a person takes each week and whether those are private or group classes.

Can I lose weight just doing Pilates Reformer?

This class is a musculo-skeletal conditioning program that is an ideal combination with some kind of cardiovascular exercise. It is also a great complement to any weight training program because it helps build muscles to prevent injury. The most successful and healthy way to achieve weight loss is an exercise plan that includes an aerobic component coupled with a strength training component, such as STOTT PILATES exercise and following a balanced diet. Combining Pilates with aerobic exercise also offers additional benefits: greater mind-body connection, improved posture, flexibility and functionality.

Quote from an actual client, who cannot do standing exercise due to severe foot issue as a result of Diabetes:

“I want to take the time to thank you for the kindness and ease you provide in your services. Marcy has been great but also all of your staff, including yourself, are considerate and helpful. It was scary to start a new physical endeavor but your place made it easy and fun. It has been so helpful.”

What is Pilates?

Invented in the early 20th century by Joseph Pilates, Pilates was created by combining Eastern modes of exercise such as Yoga and Tai Chi with Western practices such as aerobics and weight training. “Pilates is a movement technique as well as a lifelong learning process of training your body with an expectation toward health and wellness.” Joseph Pilates believed that since the mind built the body, training the physical self in this way sharpens the mental self, as well.
