"I used to exercise because I thought I had to. Now, I move my body to honor all of the strong and wonderful things it can do! I want to personally thank Michelle for always being ready to push me! She’s such a powerhouse of energy and being in her classes has made such a difference on my stress levels!"
From a young age, I fell in love with the discipline of movement science and how the body responds to exercise. This was reinforced by my experience with Mid American Pompon, dance through high school/college, and my first group exercise experience at Mid American Fitness! It has all come full circle!
I was initially drawn to the studio in 2014 due to the variety of fitness classes. Until then, I had never lifted weights before and was anxious about any form of exercise besides Pilates or cardio. After joining, I ended up moving to Indiana for many years to pursue my Master's of Public Health and work as the Childhood Obesity Prevention Coordinator for the Indiana Department of Health. Since moving back to MI, it’s wonderful to rejoin Mid American where I can practice what I preach!
As a Kinesiology PhD student at U of M, I’m a huge advocate of physical activity for mental health! With my crazy research, teaching and student schedule, it is wonderful to be back at Mid American. I love exercising because of the translation it has to life skills. If I can push myself in a workout, I’m much more motivated to challenge myself in other aspects of life. I have devoted my life to exercise and physical activity as I do see such a value in being active.
I love exercising with a community of women who uplift each other. Exercise is an opportunity, not a requirement on the laundry list of to-do items. I feel a lot of fitness culture, and gym settings, are tied around losing weight and meeting societal norms. Though everyone's wellness goals are valid, I love that Mid American Fitness is a place of encouragement and empowerment—all while getting a fun workout in!
Barbell Strength is hands down my favorite class! I’m a morning exerciser and Michelle's motivating energy is a great way to start my day. I love lifting weights and have already seen tremendous results with my power and muscle definition through this course. I HIGHLY recommend Barbell Strength to any woman who wants to feel toned, strong, and confident!
I encourage anyone who is looking to build movement into their life to start their exercise journey at Mid American! The classes are adaptable to all levels. Plus, they offer virtual and in-person options, modifications for all ages and abilities - but the core value of a motivating and supportive culture stays the same! Mid American Fitness is a Metro Detroit gem!
