Our longtime member, Joann, celebrated her 85th birthday in October 2023! She's an inspiration to everyone at the studio and we couldn't be happier to shine the spotlight on her! Read on to learn more about our wonderful member!
Since 2007, Joann has been a part of our fitness family! She originally discovered our studio by taking fitness classes at local schools with our instructors, through the Farmington Public Schools Parks and Recreation. From there, she started coming to our facility for classes and has been going strong with us ever since!
Originally from Detroit, Joann has lived in Farmington for 46 years. She was a school nurse for 25 years - working with handicapped children at Cloverdale. Upon her retirement, Joann taught school staff how to work with children with diabetes, asthma, and serious allergies. In addition to her post-retirement work within the schools, Joann was also an avid hiker, enjoyed going on river cruises, and still greatly enjoys participating in several book clubs, the Farmington Garden Club, and more.
Staying active has always been vital to Joann. Over the years, our community and fitness classes have become her social life! When asked, Joann is quick to share: “These girls are wonderful... they’re fantastic! A great gang that could be my children.”
A true inspiration, Joann takes several fitness classes per week to maintain her physical, emotional, and mental health! Sculpt & Tone, Tabata Bootcamp, Interval XT, and more, with our instructors providing helpful modifications to keep her feeling great!
To celebrate her 85th birthday, Joann’s daughter and son-in-law took her to the Real Seafood Co! It was an extra special day because it was the day of the U of M vs MSU football game and everyone at the restaurant was dressed in their U of M gear!
Joann’s overall advice for living a long, fulfilled life? Keep exercising, stay happy, have a social life and eat healthy!
